Confirmed travel addict Dan Slater is moving from London to South Africa, and somehow he persuades his long-suffering girlfriend to join him on an overland trek across the dark continent from Cairo to Cape Town. What he doesn't tell her is that their budget for the five-month trip is only $10 per day!
 
Using only the most delapidated transport, sleeping in the most unsavoury accommodation, and consuming the cheapest food available, they trawl south constantly confronted by discomfort, despair and derangement. In the face of never-ending trauma they must constantly remind themselves that this is, in fact, a holiday.
